Abraham Maslow and Success

Have you ever wondered why some people struggle constantly, while others rapidly move from one to success to another?

When I was in college I had that same question.  I was studying business management and I really wanted to know the answer to that question.  I thought it must have something to do with our thinking, so I expanded my studies to psychology, where I found the works of Abraham Maslow.

Maslow must have been pondering that same question when he was in college.  He realized that he knew a few people who functioned from a completely different level than everyone else he knew, so he decided to seek out more of these people and study them.  What he found was that they were the healthiest people in our society.  They were also the happiest.  He said most of them were highly accomplished.  And he found that they were highly creative and highly intuitive. They just seemed to know what to do and how to do it.  He said they had discovered how to fulfill their needs and desires right within themselves.  He said these people were self-actualized.

This was something that I definitely wanted to know more about, and it occurred to me that if some people could function from this more advanced level of functioning it had to be a human potential, and there must be a way of developing it.

I left school with the idea that someday I would discover how to develop this potential, and fortunately I did, and that is what Unlimited Futures is all about.

I was looking for something to help me quit smoking when I found an article in a magazine about some breathing exercises that was supposed to help one quit smoking.  I found the teacher and she taught me the breathing exercises.  She also taught me some yoga exercises.  I then found a book on meditation and focusing techniques, and I put together a routine of things that I started doing on a daily basis, and my whole life changed.

What I now know happened, was that this process released the stress that gets built up in our nervous systems and strengthened the nervous system.  As the nervous system got stronger it automatically refined the energy that makes up the mind/body system, which allowed me to move into, what seemed like, a whole new world.

My energy started increasing, I begin to feel younger and more confident, then my mind became very clear and I started to know things that I had no way of knowing.  I experimented with my new found abilities and found that I could ask questions and get answers.  I checked them out and found that they were correct.  Then I started asking bigger questions, like “What role do we each play in creating our own experiences”.  And I had what Maslow calls a peak experience.

I could clearly see how it all works.  I could talk forever and not be able to explain this understanding.  This was the ability to intuitively know or see the big picture, which is something that the intellect could never do or understand.  I could not explain it, but I could live my life from this new level of understanding.  I then knew that with this knowledge, I could create whatever I wanted to create.

I then begin creating the things I wanted in my life.  My friends knew something wonderful had happened for me and they wanted to know about it.  I knew it was not about information.  I knew that I had to help them discover these abilities within themselves, and that was the beginning of Unlimited Futures.  I have provided this course in my book Unlimited Futures: How to Understand the Life You Have and Create the Life You Want, and we also provide our Personal Growth and Development Program to help people discover these abilities within themselves.
