Creating Optimal Health

by Dr. Bobbie Stevens on June 7, 2010

We constantly see advertisements and receive information about what makes for optimal health.  There is no way that we could follow all the advice we get, and, of course, it is often conflicting.  So how do we know what to do to create optimal health for ourselves?

The truth is that we are usually looking in the wrong places for advice.  We believe that someone else knows more than we do, so we continue to search outside ourselves for the answers we seek.  Actually the answers to all of our questions can be answered by looking within ourselves.  What really matters is how we feel and what we experience.

Of course, it is valuable to have some information about food, exercise, etc.  But what we need to do is experiment with ourselves.  We need to pay attention to our bodies, how they feel and how they function.  Through simple observation, we can learn more about creating optimal health than we can ever learn from someone else.  Our bodies are intelligent and they are unique and “one size fits all” simply doesn’t exist.

We all know that attitude is important.  Our attitude is kind of a reflection of how we see the world.  Are you open to new discoveries?  Are you curious about possibilities?  Are you willing to experiment?  Do you expect something good to happen?  These are characteristics of a healthy attitude.  If you see things differently just try these attitudes on, to see if they are helpful.

How does your body feel after you eat?  Do you feel comfortable and satisfied?  If not try some different foods or maybe a smaller amount of food.  Experiment with eating fresh fruits and vegetables or things you have not tried before.  Then observe how you feel.  Only through experimenting and observing can you discover how to create optimal health.

Do you exercise daily?  If not, why not try it?  The biggest problem most of us have is the lack of understanding that we are in charge of our own lives, our own bodies and our own experiences.  Once we awaken to this realization, and begin to take charge of our lives, everything changes.

In my book Unlimited Futures: How to Understand the Life You Have and Create the Life You Want, I lay out a process for creating optimal health, and developing abilities that lie dormant deep within each of us until we activate them.  Why not try it and see what happens?
