Developing Right Brain Abilities

by Dr. Bobbie Stevens on October 12, 2009

First let’s review left brain and right brain abilities.  Our left brain is responsible for linear thinking, reason and logic, memories and verbal communication.  The left brain is limited.  It can only understand parts, but not how the parts fit together to create a whole system.  We develop our left brain abilities through teaching and learning.  Our present educational system is designed to develop our left brain abilities.

The right brain abilities are compassion, creativity, the ability to see the big picture or wholeness, the ability to understand complex systems and see the relationship between the parts, and the right brain communication is through intuition.  We develop our right brain abilities through a discovery process.  These abilities cannot be taught or learned.  We must discover them within ourselves.  In order to develop these abilities we must transcend our left brain thinking process.  We must become quite and still and go within to discover who we are on a deeper level.  The right brain provides us with a path to the knowledge of the spiritual essence of ourselves.

Developing right brain abilities enables us to know ourselves, know our source and understand laws of nature or principles of life that governs how we create our own experiences.

I have provided a process for developing right brain abilities in my book Unlimited Futures: How to Understand the Life You Have and Create the Life You Want.
