The Difference between Religion and Spirituality

by Dr. Bobbie Stevens on April 12, 2010

I often hear people seemingly confused about religion and spirituality.  Here I want to explain the difference between religion and spirituality.  Religion is about beliefs.  Webster defines it as (1) the service and worship of God or the supernatural; (2) devotion to a religious faith; (3) an organized system of faith and worship; (4) a set of beliefs and practices.

Spirituality, on the other hand, is about connecting or becoming aware of the spirit within yourself or becoming aware of your source or who you are.  It is consciously connecting with the spiritual essence of yourself.

So we can clearly see that there is a huge difference between religion and spirituality. Religion is an external focus, where we form opinions or beliefs about what we have heard or read.

Spirituality is an internal focus, where you discover your connection with universal intelligence and all of creation.

We know that we are all evolving and that all of our experiences are for our growth and development. All of our experiences are leading us to a higher level of understanding.

Here at Unlimited Futures we provide a process for moving our attention from an external focus to an internal focus, from external beliefs to internal discovery. Our work is about helping people discover who they are on a deeper level and their connection with all of existence.  We help people to discover universal laws or principles of life and how to work with these principles to create health, happiness, joy and a more fulfilling life.

If you are interested in discovering who you are on a deeper level and how to live in harmony with the laws of nature or principles of life to create a wonderful life for yourself you will want to start that process by getting my book Unlimited Futures: How to Understand the Life You Have and Create the Life You Want. Read the book, follow the process and discover a whole new world.
