Enlightenment: The Ultimate in Personal Growth

by Dr. Bobbie Stevens on March 1, 2010

When we think of enlightenment, we usually think of great sages or saints and people like Buddha, Jesus or Confucius, but there are people in the world today who are not famous, but are enlightened.

I think of enlightenment as self-realization.  When one clearly knows that they are at one with all of creation, and understands what that means.

I know that this is something that many people talk about, but enlightenment is not an intellectual concept, but a totally different way of being and functioning.  It is seeing and experiencing life from a totally different perspective than what other people see and experience.

I believe that we evolve or grow into enlightenment.  In Maslow’s hierarchy of growth he describes how we grow and evolve. He found people who had discovered their own inner ability to fulfill their needs and desires right within themselves.  He said these people were self-actualized.  They had discovered that they were not separate from their needs and desires, and they could work with the laws of nature and attract whatever they wanted into their lives.  This is a major step toward enlightenment or we could say that their degree of enlightenment is far beyond that of the majority of the people in the world today.

We know self-actualization is a human potential and so is enlightenment.  I believe that enlightenment is the next step in the evolutionary process.  It is simply a matter of expanding our awareness of the wholeness of life and understanding all the meaning of that.  Yet, we find people searching the world over to find enlightenment, when it is clearly deep within us.

Enlightenment is clearly the ultimate in personal growth, and we can only find it within ourselves. The only way to find it is through the development of abilities that lie deep within us.  The enlightened person has become a master of life, and Unlimited Futures provides a path to the development of the abilities that lie deep within each of us which will lead to self-actualization and enlightenment.

If you are interested in enlightenment, understanding how life works in the world, and your place in it, I would like to suggest that you start by reading my book Unlimited Futures: How to Understand the Life You Have and Create the Life You Want.
