Are You Living Your Life On Purpose?

by Dr. Bobbie Stevens on January 31, 2011

We all have a purpose in life and when we know what that purpose is and feel that we are fulfilling our purpose life is so much easier and more fulfilling.

When I was in college I struggled with trying to decide what to do with my life.  There were so many possibilities and things I would love to do, but how could I decide what would be best to prepare myself to do?  Somehow I knew that I had a purpose, that I was here for a reason and there was something specific that I was here to do, but what was it?  Have you ever felt this way?

We all have a purpose, something that we are here to do.  Just as every cell in our bodies has a purpose or something it’s to do to contribute to the health of the body, we too have something that we are here to do to make our contribution to the health of the world.  It need not be spectacular.  There is someone who’s purpose it is to do everything that needs to be done in the world.

We missed our flight in Memphis, Tennessee one day and we were taking a cab from the airport to a hotel and started talking with the driver.  He told us that he drove a transfer truck for many years, but when he started driving a cab he knew that he had found his purpose.  He said, “I was born to do this”.  He seemed like a very happy man.

It took me many years before I discovered my purpose and I did lots of different things that I enjoyed.  I did some modeling, taught modeling school, became a flight attendant for a major airline, became an accountant, a real estate broker, an interior designer and a financial planner along with a few other things.  I enjoyed all of these things, but I knew there was something else for me to do.  I heard that everything that we do is preparing us for fulfilling our purpose, but how could all these various things that I had done be preparing me for anything, I wondered.

Then I discovered a process for releasing stress and strengthening the nervous system which leads one into a whole new level of functioning and experience.  I discovered how to become quite and still and ask questions and receive knowledge intuitively.  I, of course, asked to know my purpose and intuitively knew that I had found it.  I knew that my purpose was to understand what I was experiencing and share this knowledge with others.  I knew that I must find a way to help others discover their purpose and live their life from this much more advanced level of functioning and experience.  That is what Unlimited Futures is all about, and I am a very happy person playing my role in this organization.

The reason most of us are unaware of our purpose is because we are so busy doing what we have learned to do that we don’t even take the time to ask the question.  However, it is a question well worth asking, because when we discover our purpose we have more energy for that and enjoy it so much more than what we did in the past.  We also do it very well probably better than anyone else could possibly do it.  It feels right and leads to exciting experiences.

Since we live in a totally ordered universe, we are presented with the opportunity to fulfill our purpose, but sometimes we are too busy to recognize it.  It is not usually apparent to us until we become quite and still and learn to listen to that voice within that is always leading us in the right direction, that we finally realize our purpose.  Then we know that it is one of the most rewarding things that we can do.

Life is not just about making a living or doing what is expected of us.  It is about making our own special contribution to the world.

I once met a medical doctor who had spent many, many years of study to prepare himself for the work he was now doing, but he confessed to me that he had never wanted to be a doctor.  He had done all of that work because it was what his parents wanted for him.

What is your purpose in life?  Are you living your life on purpose?  Would you like to discover your purpose and live a truly fulfilling life?

As I mentioned before many years ago I discovered a process for releasing stress and strengthening the nervous system which moves one into a whole new level of functioning and develops one’s ability to access this knowledge intuitively.  This process when practiced daily allows us to move out of a life of struggle and into a life of joy and fulfillment.

I have described this process in detail and provided diagrams and step-by-step guidance in my book entitled Unlimited Futures: How to Understand the Life You Have and Create the Life You Want. I have also created a CD, DVD and Companion Workbook to help you get started.  In addition we now have our Personal Growth and Development Core Course on DVDs, which you can purchase and experience in the comfort of your own home.  You may also download a free introduction to this course by simply clicking on the request that you will find on each page of our web site.

Once you start experiencing this growth process, we also provide in residence courses that you can attend to accelerate this natural evolutionary process.
