Preventing Illness and Creating Optimal Health Continued

Last week I told you about the lecture we attended with Dr. David Perlmutter.  Just to refresh your memory Dr. Perlmutter is a Board Certified Neurologist that has been interviewed on many national radio and television programs including Larry King Live, The Today Show and Oprah.  Recently he was on the Dr. Oz show, and Dr. Oz named him one of the four top neurologists in the nation.

The title of the lecture was “The Neuroscience of Enlightenment”.

Dr. Perlmutter verified, what I have known for many years, and that is that practically all illnesses can be prevented.  He explained in detail how it all works, but the bottom line was that stress is the major factor that upsets the balance needed in all areas of the mind/body for health.  He said there are seven major things that are vital to preventing illness and moving us into higher states of consciousness.  They are the following;

  1. Exercise
  2. A healthy diet
  3. Cutting back on calories
  4. Our thinking
  5. Sufficient oxygen to the brain
  6. Focus
  7. Meditation

As he explained these areas it was clear that we have it all covered perfectly in our Unlimited Futures courses.

We covered the first three on his list last week and I just want to expand on the others today.

He explained the importance of our thinking.  He talked about the conscious, sub-conscious and super conscious.  He said that the conscious mind senses about 40 inputs per minute, but the sub-conscious gets approximately 11,000,000 inputs per minute.  We are never consciously aware of this information yet it is influencing our beliefs.

He provides scientific data showing that thinking can change the very structure of the brain and how it is changed depends on whether we are having positive or negative experiences and thoughts.

What we discover is that when one starts working with the Unlimited Futures process that much of the negative, limiting beliefs simply go away with the stress that put them into our minds.  We also work with consciously changing our limiting beliefs and how to avoid some of the negativity.  Then, of course, our experiences reflect the change in our thinking.

Dr. Perimutter works a great deal with ADHD and Alzheimer’s, and one of the main factors in these problems is getting enough oxygen to the brain.  He talked about the importance of oxygen and how it can be used to treat these patients.  Then, of course, it is important in prevention of these and other illnesses.

We have that covered in our programs with our breathing exercises.  These breathing exercises bring oxygen to the brain and also balance the energy in the body.

He said there is a whole new field of neuroscience called epigenetic, which studies the damaging effects of stress on the hypothalamus area of the brain.  They have discovered that the genetic, aging, shrinking size of the hypothalamus can be reversed.  They now know that you can actually grow a new hypothalamus.

Another key factor in changing and reprogramming our brains is Focus.  We can reprogram the brain to function from a more positive, healthy, uplifting emotional state.  If you have read my book Unlimited Futures you know Focus is at the top of the pyramid, we develop it and work with it in the seven steps in the creative process.

Dr. Perlmutter said that Meditation plays a major role in prevention of illnesses.  He said it has a powerful positive impact on the limbic system which is often referred to as the emotional brain.  And it also impacts the anterior system which plays a key role in the brain’s ability to process complex and challenging cognitive tasks.

The bottom line is what we have said all along, that enlightenment or self-actualization is the result of high level wellness.  It is the results of a perfectly healthy functioning mind/body system.  When we have released enough stress to allow the system to heal and strengthen itself through a simple life style change everything changes.  We move into a whole new world of understanding and experience.
