Preventing Illness and Creating Optimal Health

For those of you who have read it I have some additional information to share with you.

On Thursday evening Dean and I went to a lecture presented by Dr. David Perlmutter.  Dr. Perlmutter is a Board Certified Neurologist that has been interviewed on many national radio and television programs including Larry King Live, The Today Show and Oprah.  Recently he was on the Dr. Oz show, and Dr. Oz named him one of the four top neurologists in the nation.

The title of the lecture was “The Neuroscience of Enlightenment”.

Dr. Perlmutter verified, what I have known for many years, and that is that practically all illnesses can be prevented.  He explained in detail how it all works, but the bottom line was that stress is the major factor that upsets the balance needed in all areas of the mind/body for health.  He said there are seven major things that are vital to preventing illness and moving us into higher states of consciousness.  They are the following;

  1. Exercise
  2. A healthy diet
  3. Cutting back on calories
  4. Our thinking
  5. Sufficient oxygen to the brain
  6. Focus
  7. Meditation

As he explained these areas it was clear that we have it all covered perfectly in our Unlimited Futures courses.  First there are several kinds of exercise that are needed.  This includes aerobic exercise, stretching exercise and resistance or strength building.  Each of these is included in the postures in our exercise or energizer program.  In addition to that, the postures also stimulate all of the endocrine glands which insure that they provide the right amount of hormones to keep the system functioning properly.  Dr. Perimutter also touched on the importance of the body’s ability to make the hormones necessary for health.

The second, a healthy diet, this includes getting all the nutrients the body needs, which includes vitamins, minerals and protein.  As we all must know by now we need to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.  He said if we eat meat it should be grass fed rather than corn fed.  And he emphasized the importance of getting plenty of healthy fats, which we can get mainly from fish and avocados.  He also recommended taking supplements.

Dr. Perlmutter said that numerous studies show that cutting back on calories is one of the most beneficial things we can do for our health and longevity.
