DISCOVRING ABILITIES OF THE HEART
By Bobbie Stevens, Ph. D.
The new science has brought us to the awareness of abilities we have always had but have not developed because we were unaware of their value. These are what we now speak of as heart abilities. When we believed our brain abilities were sufficient to accomplish our goals, we called these abilities right-brain abilities.
Now The Institute of Heart Math has shown that the electromagnetic field of the heart is the most powerful and extensive one in the human body – about 5,000 times stronger than the electromagnetic field of the brain.
This research has made it clear that our heart abilities are more powerful than the brain abilities we developed. We simply have not been aware of this in the past.
Some of our less recognized heart abilities are Creativity, Imagination, Innovation, and Intuition – the ability to see the big picture. It is clear to see that these abilities are most needed in our world today.
Let us look at intuition. What is intuition? Everyone is talking about intuition these days, but few understand it. We hear the phrase “That’s counter-intuitive.” What does that mean? It seems to me it is just saying that it is opposite to what we might think.
Intuition is quite different from what people have thought of it in the past. Many people think of intuition as just hunches or strong feelings we should or should not do something, but intuition is so much more than that. We all experience it to some degree, but some of us have developed our ability to access intuitive knowledge on an on-going basis.
We are all born with two ways of obtaining knowledge. These ways are known as intellectual and intuitive. They are both potentials and must be developed. We have developed our intellectual abilities through our educational system. We believed that was all we needed to be successful and fulfill our goals. We now know the intellect is limited. It is unable to see the big picture. It can follow a cause-and-effect relationship only so far and then it gets lost in the complexity. On the other hand, intuitively we can see the big picture and how all the parts fit together.
Being fully emerged in our intellectual world, when intuition became recognized as a real thing, people tried to teach it. Intuition is not an intellectual thing. Therefore, it cannot be taught. It can only be discovered within ourselves. Intuition is a human potential, but it is developed in a completely separate way from the intellect.
As the world we have created is now crumbling, it becomes clear that something was missing. And we are now beginning to understand that it is the lack of development our heart abilities and integrating our brain abilities and our heart abilities.
Struggling to fulfill our goals with the intellect only has created much stress in our lives. This stress has blocked our ability to access intuitive knowledge. One is incapable of receiving intuitive knowledge with an overstressed nervous system. Therefore, the first step in developing our intuition is releasing the built-up stress in our nervous system.
Did you know that everything new in existence came to someone intuitively? The intellect is developed through teaching and learning, but what we teach and learn is only knowledge or information that already exists. What we need now is new knowledge, which we can only access intuitively.
Intuition is vastly different from ordinary thinking, but can you distinguish the difference between intellectual thought and intuitive knowledge? Few people can because they have not developed their intuitive abilities.
Our job now is re-creating our world. It will require well developed heart abilities and brain abilities. Most of us have developed our brain abilities. The next step is developing our heart abilities and integrating the two. When you are ready to do this, we are here to help you.
